EASTERN CAPE LIQUOR BOARD TO LAUNCH UNDERAGE DRINKING SCHOOL AMBASSADOR’S PROGRAMME IN MT AYLIFF

The Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB) cordially invites media to the school ambassador launch targeting ten schools in the Alfred Nzo District Municipality, at Mt Ayliff.

Schools in the Mt. Ayliff area are experiencing increasing cases of alcohol abuse, and Eastern Cape Liquor Board has taken a step to intervene by introducing the Ambassadorship programme through which it aims to empower learners to educate other learners about the scourge of underage drinking.

Alcohol abuse among young pupils continues to cause havoc in schools, and high crime statistics are attributed to alcohol/substance abuse in the area. Also this platform will be used to make young girls aware about alcohol related social challenges that affect women such as Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), Rape and diseases associated with alcohol abuse.

The launch will be followed by a drama, debate and public speaking tournaments that will be amongst ten schools from around Mt Ayliff high schools, competing on alcohol related issues on the following day.

Media is, therefore, cordially invited to be part of the campaign to fight alcohol abuse in schools and assist to spread the message of underage drinking “Booze is not for learners”.
