Eastern Cape Liquor Board to conduct community outreach at Dangwana in Mzimvubu Local Municipality
As part of the Youth Month activities, Eastern Cape Liquor Board will coordinate a community-based campaign at Dangwana Village in Mzimvubu Local Municipality, to raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol abuse and educate communities about their role in liquor licensing processes.
The area is reportedly experiencing high levels of underage drinking, illegal taverns and irresponsible consumption of alcohol. The area is also associated with cases of concoction liquor trading and consumption.
The campaign will also focus on educating young people about the dangers of indulging in alcohol and further mobilise community members to play their rightful role in fighting the scourge of underage drinking. Eastern Cape Liquor Board in partnership with other stakeholders will present programmes that can benefit young people as a way of offering an alternative to the abuse of alcohol
The campaign will be conducted in collaboration with key stakeholders such as the Municipality, House of Traditional Leaders, Social Development, Department of Education, Department of Health, Department of Trade and Industry, SAPS, SAB, DEDEAT, HTL, Gambling Board and the Council of Churches.
Stakeholders in attendance will be afforded an opportunity to share information on their respective programmes that could benefit the community, particularly young people of Mzimvubu.
Liquor traders have been invited to participate in the programme and the Board will use this opportunity to encourage them to take responsibility of the society and to know that legal and proper trading in liquor has long term positive spin-offs, not only to the business, but to society in its entirety.
You are therefore cordially invited to join ECLB in its fight against the scourge of the abuse of alcohol and ill responsible liquor trading. The details of the event are as follows:
Venue: Dangwana Community Hall
