EASTERN CAPE LIQUOR BOARD TO CONDUCT ANTI-ALCOHOL ABUSE EDUCATION PROGRAMME IN KIRKWOOD (SUNDAYS RIVER LOCAL MUNICIPALITY)
Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB) in partnership with Heineken will conduct an education and awareness campaign in Kirkwood as a means to alleviate excessive consumption of alcohol in the area, on 8 August 2017.
The area is ravaged by high incidences of alcohol abuse, especially among under-aged people and labourers in the surrounding citrus farms. It is also experiencing mushrooming of concoctions, which are sold at a very nominal price and have increasingly condemned health of many members of the community.
ECLB in partnership with Heineken seeks to use this opportunity to intensify its efforts to educate society on responsible consumption of alcohol, particularly the youth. The campaign will also focus on responsible trading following reports of cases of reckless trading and mushrooming of illegal outlets.
Different stakeholders such as SAPS, Health, SASSA, Municipality and Justice Department have committed to collaborate with ECLB in addressing alcohol abuse in the area.
Media is, therefore, cordially invited to the event, which is scheduled to take place as follows:
Venue: Mzamohle Community Hall-Moses Mabhida
Date: 08 August 2017
