Eastern Cape Liquor Board, SAB, and Nelson Mandela Metro Traffic Department to conduct a Road Safety Operation
Eastern Cape Liquor Board in collaboration with South African Breweries and Nelson Mandela Traffic Department Police will conduct a Road Safety Campaign through a roadblock in the Port Elizabeth.
The Eastern Cape Liquor Board Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nombuyiselo Makala, will lead the campaign that is intended to raise awareness on road safety, but also check compliance with Covid 19 health protocols. This will seek to ensure that motorists adhere to Covid 19 health protocols by ensuring that passengers wear their masks and sanitiser are available for passengers.
After the roadblock, there will be a visit to the Alcohol Evidence Centre that has been built by SAB in partnership with Nelson Centre uses Evidential Breath Alcohol Testing (EBAT) technology which is an alternative testing method that enables for immediate results acceptable in court. The Alcohol Evidence Centre (AEC) aims to make this technology accessible to law enforcement officers instead of the blood testing option. This is achieved by setting up physical facilities in hot spots areas to which suspect is brought for testing. This enables for immediate evidence to take cases forward.
Media is, therefore, invited to the roadblock, which is schedule to take place as follows:
Date: 10 December 2020
Venue: M4 (Settlers Way) at Sidon Road Turn Off
Time: 07h30 – 08h30
A visit to the Alcohol Evidence Centre will be at 10h30.
