Circular: COVID-19 : Liquor Establishments

In terms of the Regulations issued in terms of Section 27(2) of the Disaster Manager Act 57 of 2002 (the Act) the Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB) hereby reiterates that the provisions thereof are legal binding with immediate effect on all liquor outlets within the Eastern Province and Nationally as a measure to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The Act and Regulations supersedes all trading conditions and municipal bylaws in respect of the Liquor Industry.

The Regulations define liquor as:-
a) Any liquor produced as defined in Section 1 of the Liquor Products Act 60 of 1989;
b) Beer or traditional African Beer; or
c) Any substance or drink declared to be liquor under the Liquor Act 59 of 2003, but does not include methylated spirits.
