Eastern Cape Liquor Board to conduct an underage drinking awareness in St Mathews, Keiskammahoek.
The Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB) cordially invites you to an underage drinking awareness campaign that will be conducted within four school around St Mathew’s in Keiskammahoek.
In its endeavour to intensify the fight against underage drinking in schools. ECLB will intensify the fight alcohol abuse in schools and assist to streamline the awareness and educations where pupils will be made aware on matters of underage drinking. This initiative will also be used by the board to condemn the “pens down” pandemic as we are entering the exam season. We are approaching summer season which is notorious of the scourge of alcohol abuse in the area. The traditional leaders will also use the platform to caution young men about safe circumcision, as the period is closer.
Alcohol abuse among young pupils continues to cause havoc in schools, and high crime statistics are attributed to alcohol/substance abuse in the area. Also this platform will be used to make young girls aware about alcohol related social challenges that affect women such as Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), Rape and diseases associated with alcohol abuse.
The school has been under a dark cloud where young pupils reported a number of abuse within the school premises. Council of Churches will also be part of this event to conduct an exam prayer.
Media is, therefore, cordially invited to be part of the campaign to fight alcohol abuse in schools and assist to spread the message of underage drinking “Booze is not for learners”.
